The gluten-free organic brown millet from Meraner Mühle is ideal for grinding or sprouting, because cooking does not soften it at all. The freshly ground brown millet flour is perfect as an addition to muesli, porridge, smoothies or baked goods. Brown millet contains plenty of minerals, especially silicic acid. One third of this consists of silicon, a trace element that plays an important role as a nutrient and building material for cartilage mass, connective tissue, skin, hair and nails and contributes to the mineralisation of bones.
Brown millet is considered a wild form of millet. Like oats, millet belongs to the panicle grasses. Millet is one of the oldest cultivated plants and was already grown in Germany in pre-Christian times. Until 100 years ago, brown millet played an important role in the healthy nutrition of humans, which in the course of time fell into oblivion. Thanks to its numerous positive properties, especially its high mineral content, it is currently experiencing a renaissance.
